Welcome to DFW Wildcare! My name is Lesley Tierney and I am a permitted Texas wildlife rehabilitator.
I have been a wildlife rehabber for several years now, working with a variety of small mammals including squirrels, opossums, skunks, bats, rats, mice, voles, moles and shrews. But bunnies are my true passion!
The demand for rehabbers seems to be growing every year and there are far too few of them out there. I average 35-50 calls per day and take in around 1000 cottontails every year, in addition to other species.
A few years back I began teaching classes on rehabbing Cottontails. This helps recruit more people willing to learn and help. I have several sub-permittees around the metroplex rehabbing wildlife. Still, the need for rehabbers continues to grow.
For the first time this year, I started recruiting volunteers to come and help here with the day to day chores. My volunteers ROCK and I am so incredibly thankful for them. I could not do this without their support!
After so many years of growth, becoming a non-profit was the natural thing to do. With help and encouragement from several people, we made it happen!
My goal is for this page (and my website) to be educational and informative. I am looking forward to sharing some of the amazing stories that come through these doors!
Thank you all for your support!
